Nexus 5 Rumored for October Release with Android 5.0

With all the recent hype surrounding the Moto X smartphone from Motorola and Google, it’s easy to forget about the long-rumored Nexus 5, but a new report from Korean site Daum claims the Nexus 4 successor will hit the market in...

October 2013. The article also notes that the handset will run Android 5.0 – rumored to be called “Key Lime Pie” –  and is being developed by LG alongside the incoming Optimus G2, though we’d take these rumors with more than a few grains of salt.

With the Moto X expected to launch in August, we were hoping Google would use its release to roll out the long-rumored Android 5.0. However, if a new Nexus smartphone is really in the works it would make sense for Google to follow its own precedent and release the new operating system a bit later.

We won’t know anything about the Nexus 5 for sure until Google makes an announcement of its own, but the report makes sense considering LG developed the Nexus 4 and has dropped a few hints that it’s working on the handset’s successor. If the stock Android handset really does have similar specs to the Optimus G2 we expect it to come equipped with a Snapdragon 800 chip clocked at 2.3GHz, a 13-megapixel camera, a 5.2-inch HD display, a 2,700 mAh battery, either 2 or 3GB of RAM, and LTE-A service. Of course, this is all speculation, but it’s always fun to think about what Google has in store for us.
