Apple Inc. (AAPL) Is World’s Most Admired Company: Fortune

Fortune has released its list of the world's most admired companies. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has kept its spot on top, despite tough competition.


Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has retained its spot at the top of the Fortune list of the most admired companies in the world. Rumors swirled earlier this week, and were repeated here, that the company would lose its number one position. That view has proven unfounded – as the Cupertino company celebrates another year on top.



Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) 1st on list:

The list was remarkable in that the first thirteen places were all filled by American companies. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) stood at number one followed by Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), and The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE:KO). Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) rounded out the top five.

At number fourteen came Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (ETR:BMW), the prestigious German car manufacturer. It was the topmost company on the list that was not based in the United States.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) number one spot was secured with a score of 8.24 on the Fortune Index. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) put up a score of 8.1 for second and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) managed 7.28 for the third spot on the list. The American dominance of the list may be a cause for concern about accuracy, though it reflects the perceived importance of the tech industry, and the dominance of the United States in that field.


The list is enumerated by taking the 1,000 largest US companies and non-US firms on the Fortune 500 list that have revenue equal to or greater than $10 billion. Directors, executives and analysts were asked to rate the firms on nine separate categories. The most admired companies are selected from a list of the firms that finished in the top 25% of the list last year and firm’s that finished in the top 20% of their industry lists last year.

US dominance of the field is probably a little overblown, and the grip that tech companies have on the collective attention has clearly made them over represented on this list. Yes the firms are important, but it’s difficult to justify having three of them at the top of a most admired list.

Those weaknesses will do little to dissuade fans of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) from celebrating the small victory, and it is certainly a good sign for the company. It has not been hit as hard by various blunders as some speculated. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will need to continue battling in the mobile device sector, rather than the “most admired” sector. Awards are nice though.

Κύπρος: Νέο ρεκόρ ανεργίας

Με το δεύτερο ταχύτερο ρυθμό στην ΕΕ αυξήθηκε τον Ιανουάριο του 2013 η ανεργία στην Κύπρο καταγράφοντας νέο ιστορικό ρεκόρ. 

Νέα στοιχεία της Eurostat δείχνουν τη ραγδαία επιδείνωση των συνθηκών στην αγορά εργασίας από τον Ιούνιο, το μήνα που η Κύπρος υπέβαλε αίτηση για στήριξη από το μηχανισμό. 






Σύμφωνα με τη Eurostat, το ποσοστό ανεργίας στην Κύπρο τον Ιανουάριο του 2013 ανήλθε στο 14,7% από 14,6% το Δεκέμβριο του 2012 και 9,9% τον περσινό Ιανουάριο. 

Το ποσοστό των άνεργων ανδρών στην Κύπρο ανήλθε στο 15,2% τον Ιανουάριο και των γυναικών στο 14,2%. 

Η αύξηση της ανεργίας στην Κύπρο είναι η δεύτερη μεγαλύτερη στην ΕΕ μετά την Ελλάδα όπου η ανεργία ανήλθε στο 27% το Νοέμβριο του 2012 από 20,8% το Νοέμβριο του 2011. 

Αντίθετα, στην ΕΕ και στην ευρωζώνη η ανεργία παρουσίασε σταθεροποίηση παραμένοντας σε ψηλά επίπεδα. 

Στην ΕΕ η ανεργία ανήλθε στο 10,8% από 10,7% τον προηγούμενο μήνα και στην ευρωζώνη στο 11,9% από 11,8%. 

Ο αριθμός των ανέργων υπολογίζεται στα 26,2 εκ. στο σύνολο της ΕΕ με τα 19 εκ. να είναι στην ευρωζώνη. 

Σε σχέση με το Δεκέμβριο του 2012, ο αριθμός των ανέργων αυξήθηκε κατά 222 χιλ. στην ΕΕ και κατά 201 χιλ. στην ευρωζώνη. 

Σε σχέση με τον Ιανουάριο του 2012, παρουσιάζεται αύξηση 1,9 εκ. ανέργων στην ΕΕ και 1,9 εκ. ανέργων στην ευρωζώνη. 

Μεταξύ των κρατών μελών της ΕΕ, τα μικρότερα ποσοστά ανεργίας έχει η Αυστρία (4,9%), η Γερμανία (5,3%), το Λουξεμβούργο (5,3%) και η Ολλανδία (6%).

Κορυφαία επενδυτική τράπεζα η JPMorgan

Στο νούμερο ένα της ετήσιας κατάταξης του Bloomberg για τις καλύτερα πληρωμένες επενδυτικές τράπεζες σκαρφάλωσε η JPMorgan με βάση τα τέλη που κερδίζουν. 

Σύμφωνα με το πρακτορείο Bloomberg, η μεγαλύτερη αμερικανική τράπεζα έλαβε τέλη $3,97 δισ. πέρσι παρουσιάζοντας αύξηση 24,8% σε σχέση με το 2011. 

Η JPMorgan βρίσκεται στην κορυφή κατά τα τέσσερα από τα πέντε τελευταία χρόνια ενώ πέρσι ήταν η πρώτη επενδυτική τράπεζα σε χρέος και τέλη μετοχών καθώς και συνολικά. 

Η Goldman Sachs Inc. κατατάχθηκε στο νούμερο δύο ενώ το 2011 κατείχε την πρώτη θέση. Η Goldman ήταν στην κορυφή όσον αφορά τα τέλη εξαγορών και συγχωνεύσεων όπως κάθε χρόνο από τη δημιουργία της κατάταξης. 

Αν και τα τέλη εξαγορών και συγχωνεύσεων και έκδοσης μετοχών υποχώρησαν το 2012, τα συνολικά τέλη παρουσίασαν άνοδο 3,7% φτάνοντας τα $50,9 δισ. λαμβάνοντας ώθηση από την αύξηση στην αναχρηματοδότηση εταιρικού χρέους.
