Michael Schumacher to undergo rehabilitation at home

Michael Schumacher to undergo rehabilitation at home after leaving hospitalFormula One legend Michael Schumacher has been moved to his family home in Switzerland for further rehabilitation nearly nine months after his life-threatening skiing accident.
Schumacher, who won a record seven drivers’ championships in his F1 career, has made steady progress while at a clinic in Lausanne, according to his manager, although no further details on his condition were disclosed...

The 45-year-old has been in hospital since his crash while skiing off-piste in the Alpine resort of Meribel last December, with updates on his health few and far between.
Sabine Kehm, Schumacher’s manager, confirmed in a statement that he had returned home to his large family estate on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Kehm said: “Henceforth, Michael's rehabilitation will take place at his home. Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months. There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead.

“We would like extend our gratitude to the entire team at CHUV Lausanne for their thorough and competent work.
“We ask that the privacy of Michael's family continue to be respected, and that speculations about his state of health are avoided.”
Little has been heard publicly from Schumacher’s family since the accident, with early press intrusion at his intensive care unit in Grenoble clearly having an impact.
In July Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, broke her silence with a message of heartfelt thanks in the programme for the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

She wrote: “Dear motorsport friends, this is a message to all of you who have lived a passion for Michael’s sport in all the years together with him, and who have supported him the past half year off the track as well.
“The German Grand Prix gives me the perfect opportunity to cordially thank you for the good wishes and positive energies you keep sending Michael. I have to say your sympathies literally blew us all away! Good to know that together we made it through the hardest time!”

Schumacher holds almost all the records in Formula One, including for race wins and championships. He retired from the sport in 2006 after winning five consecutive titles with Ferrari, before returning in 2010 with Mercedes. The German retired for a second time at the end of 2012.
