Report: Google on verge of buyin Groupon for $6 bill.
Chicago-based Groupon, a rapidly growing online discounter that launched in 2008, is on the verge of being bought by Google for as much as $6 billion, according to an article posted early Tuesday morning on the New York Times' website.
The Times reported that sources with direct knowledge of the matter said a $5-$6 billion acquisition could be struck this week.

The Times said Groupon CEO Andrew Mason declined an interview request, saying he would talk “only if you want to talk about my other passion, building miniature dollhouses.”
The possible $6 billion price would be one of Google's largest acquisitions and dwarf the $1.65 billion it paid for YouTube in 2006.
Groupon has more than 12 million registered users. They sign up for deal discounts, triggered when enough subscribers accept, ranging from 50-90% off retail goods and services.
Groupon is widely believed to be a hot acquisition target. The Times said the company rebuffed an offer from Yahoo in the $2 billion range.
